Description: Richard Spurling assisted his son R. G. Spurling in establishing the Christian Union on August 19, 1886. As an ordained elder, Richard Spurling had the ecclesial authority to set a congregation in order. He was the first ordained minister in the Church of God. He soon returned to his Holly Springs Baptist Church home.
